Expo 2020 Dubai pledges to suckle around Dh5 billion worth of contracts for the event to small and medium scale enterprises in Dubai. 20 percent of the upcoming mega event’s direct as well as indirect spend will be assigned to local and international SMEs, says the Expo 2020 Dubai Bureau. With over 400,000 SMEs making almost 94 per cent of the companies and subsidizing to over 60 percent of the nation’s GDP, the Expo 2020 expects to strengthen the community in a big way. Reem Al Hashimy, UAE’s Minister of State for International Cooperation as well as Director General of the Bureau Expo Dubai 2020, stated that the possibilities for SME participation in Expo 2020 Dubai are significant and extend beyond the physical site and the six-month duration of the event itself. Expo 2020 Dubai will act as a facilitator for SMEs and continually look for chances to boost their amalgamation into the broader, open UAE economy during the event, says Reem Al Hashimy.
