London’s Madame Tussauds is set to open in Dubai in Sep 2017, confirmed Merlin Entertainments, owner of the Madame Tussauds celebrity wax attractions. The museum will be located next to the under-construction Dubai Eye Ferris wheel on BlueWaters Island, off the Jumeirah Beach Residence coastline.
Madame Tussauds is renowned for its life-like models of celebrities and political leaders, including famous regional figures and global names. The wax model museum in Dubai, based on the original London concept, will feature David Beckham, Elvis Presley, Brad Pitt, Vladimir Putin, and Barack Obama, among others.
Established in 1998, the UK-based Merlin Entertainments Inc. operates in 25 countries, employing over 28,000 people. The company has merged with Tussauds Group in 2007 and operates waxworks museums in London, Amsterdam, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, and New York. It also owns the London Eye, the world’s second-biggest visitor attractions group behind Walt Disney.
Merlin Entertainments will also manage the soon-to-open Legoland Dubai theme park under a contract with the operator DXB Entertainments. Dubai’s Tourism Vision for 2020 is a roadmap with the key objective of bringing 20 million visitors per year by 2020.
