Smoothie King has opened its first outlet in Dubai on Thursday, 01 September 2016. The new Smoothie King store is located at BurJuman Mall, Dubai. The chief operating officer for Smoothie King, Tom O’Keefe, says “expanding to a city like Dubai made sense for some reasons. It is an international hub, and most people speak English, so the language barrier is low. And the hot and humid climate is ideal for selling frozen drinks.”
Smoothie King is in partnership with Al Ghurair Retail, a company that has a presence in over 20 countries, with businesses in food and commodities, financial services, real estate and many other sectors. Al Ghurair aims to open 45 Smoothie King stores over the next five years, starting in Dubai. It is also planning to operate in other GCC countries such as Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, and Bahrain. Al Ghurair has already signed a lease for a second Smoothie King location at Dubai Mall, one of the busiest tourist spots in the region, and the store will be opened next year.
Smoothie King, founded in 1973, is an American smoothie food retailer that caters blended fruit-based drinks. The company has over 600 locations worldwide and plans to open more than 1,000 stores in the US and abroad by the end of next year.
