The long wait of the art lovers of Dubai came to an end with the inauguration of region’s first Opera House on Wednesday. Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, was one of the first guests arrived to enjoy the performance at the first night of the Opera House. About 2,000 high-profile, well-dressed attendees have come for the first show performed by Placido Domingo, one of the finest tenors the world has ever seen. The Dubai Opera House is designed in the shape of a dhow, a traditional sailing vessel, and is located next to the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.
Despite heavy traffic on the busy Mohammad Bin Rashid Boulevard area, many peopled abandoned their taxis and walked to the venue to take delight in the finest performance of Placido Domingo. Domino started at 8 pm performed a programme which began with an orchestral, Richard Wagner’s overture from Die Meistersinger Von Nurnberg, an ode to the craft of music-making.
Placido Domingo is a renowned Spanish tenor, conductor and arts administrator. He has recorded more than a hundred complete operas and is famous for his versatility, regularly performing in Italian, French, German, Spanish, English and Russian in the most prestigious opera houses in the world.
