A Warner Bros. theme park that will make generous use of the company’s DC Comics, Looney Tunes, and Hanna-Barbera libraries is currently under construction in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates.
Warner Bros. and Miral, a UAE government-owned developer, will open phase one of the USD 1 billion theme park in 2018. According to reports in Warner Bros. Consumer Products will license its properties to Miral which will construct the park. Visitors to Yas Island are estimated to rise from 25 million in 2015 to 30 million by 2018.
The park will be co-located with the Formula One race track, a Ferrari-themed amusement park, and the largest waterpark in the Middle East on Yas Island. The development will also eventually include a Warner Bros. branded hotel alongside the theme park. Yas Island has seven hotels, a mall, concert arena, marina, beach, links golf course and more than 100 restaurants.
Abu Dhabi and Dubai have positioned the country as a leading tourist destination. This announcement follows plans by Dubai to build Walt Disney World-style resort called Dubai Parks & Resorts that will house a Six Flags theme park, Legoland Dubai, Motiongate Dubai, and Bollywood Parks Dubai.
Plans on expanding infrastructure and building world class facilities in the country are underway despite the global economic conditions.
